Shabbat Ba'Bayit: Shabbat at Home!
Hello! Thank you for your interest in the Shaarie Torah Shabbat Ba Bayit Program. Modeled after many successful programs in synagogues around the United States, families and individuals will be matched with several others, creating a small group or “havurah” to spend one Friday night a month with.
All families or individuals who participate in the program will be matched based on geographic location, family makeup or other demographics in hopes that you will have fun together and build new relationships. Each family or individual who participates will host a Shabbat dinner on a rotating basis. (If you are not able to host, you are still invited to participate, you may indicate that in the registration).
The goals of the Shabbat BaBayit program are two fold. The first goal is to help Shaarie Torah families and individuals come together at home to celebrate the beautiful holiday of Shabbat together on a regular basis. The second goal of the program is to help those who may not feel comfortable hosting a Shabbat dinner gain the skills and know how to do so.
If you new to hosting or leading rituals makes you nervous, Rabbi Rose will be preparing a series of videos which will walk you through the leading of a traditional Friday dinner night at home. In addition to instructional videos, Congregation Shaarie Torah will provide material aid, access to ritual items, information on cooking and bringing food into a kosher home and tips on hosting to make the experience as easeful as possible.
You may participate in this program without a kosher kitchen, however we request that all food served from a non-kosher kitchen be vegetarian. If you cannot eat in a non-kosher kitchen you can indicate that in the registration and we will work to make sure we pair you with other families with similar restrictions. If you cannot travel (except by foot) on Shabbat, there will be a place to indicate that also.
Our goal is to help you get to know your neighbors, make new friends and experience the joy of Shabbat when it is celebrated at home.
The Shabbat Ba Bayit dinners will take place on the 1st Friday of the month beginning May 4, 2018.
Registration closes March 9, 2018.
